PRLog (Press Release)– Jul 23, 2011– Historically integrated was never considered by serious gamer. But there are always some users who want to play games and spend not a lot on gaming computer, with integrated video cards so slow on average they would still have to buy some discrete cheap video card to meet some of the minimum requirements for games. AMD decided to change that trend. AMD Llano processors with new graphics core (now called APU) based on FM1 platform with A75 motherboards provide hefty CPU performance and at the same time discrete video card level performance from it's GPU chip. There are 2 APU's currently available with more coming down the road: A6 3650 and A8 3850, which feature ATI 6530D and 6550D GPU chips respectively. From the name of the GPU's you can tell what performance they offer approx - it will be around discrete 6550 or little less, but much higher than with 6450. CPU performance part of those new quad core APU's is around older Athlon II X4 processors , which is not bad, but not great either, basically it's quite on par with integrated GPU performance so it is pretty well balanced if you use as it was intended. Both parts consume only 100W and are quite remote control helicopter suitable for HTPC and home theaters and such. GPU performance is excellent for games like World of Warcraft and many others, most current titles can be ran with good settings too. This feature requires separate article because of it's complexity, but you should just know that new APU work much better with both integrated and discrete video cards together. Overall new FM1 platform is perfect for those who need a new computer for $600-700 and need some decent performance with ability to upgrade later. There are no real downsides to that new platform, except for a little low performance overall that may not be really adequate in the world of tomorrow, but it's quite fine for the price, because it's aimed at low budget systems. High end gamers - please wait for Bulldozer, it should clear out a lot of things, but so far Intel i5 2500K and i7 2600K dominate the market with performance/value crown. Which comes at a price though. AMD on the other hand continues to dominate in lower price range, especially with quite capable Phenom II X4 processors after recent price drops.
